Supporters in bloody fight during Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates match,

TENSION between fans of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates boiled over on Saturday.

Chairs and other objects were seen flying through the air at FNB Stadium in Soweto soon after Chiefs scored the winning goal on penalties.

Soccer supporters got into fights that left a number of people injured.

Some said the trouble was caused by Amakhosi supporters teasing Pirates fans, while others said Bucs followers were sore losers.

One fan was knocked unconscious and paramedics spent a long time trying to resuscitate him. Another man was left with a big wound after he was hit by a chair ripped out of the stands.

Security guards and cops also had a tough time separating groups of fighting fans.

A Chiefs supporter helping an injured man said: "When we lost last Saturday, we didn’t fight but today they’re beating us. This is not fair."

Last Saturday, Bucs beat Chiefs 3-1 and fans were hoping for another win in the Telkom Knockout semi-final. However, the match ended in a 0-0 draw and Chiefs went on to win 6-5 on penalties.

Amakhosi supporter William Mukwevho said it was disappointing to see people fight at soccer matches. "Beating each other after matches is really not on. The PSL must seat fans separately," he said.

At the time of going to print yesterday, Chiefs spokesman Vina Maphosa and supporter relations manager Cecil Motaung were not available for comment.

PSL spokesman Luxolo September’s phone rang unanswered.
