List of drunk South African soccer players who died in car accidents,

Bafana Bafana legend Lucas Radebe has appealed to soccer players to refrain from partying and driving late at night.

This follows the scourge of players dying on the road after a night of partying.

"Sleeping is very important for soccer players due to the intensity of their training. ANd when you add to that fatigue by parting and driving at night, you are inviting problems," said Lucas, known for his clean lifestyle during his playing days.

The recent death of Ajax Cape Town player, Cecil Lolo, has raised an alarm as most soccer players who have been K_illed in car accidents were travelling in the wee hours of the morning after a night-out. This has put a spotlight on whether these players, given the nature of their jobs, should actually be on the road at that hour.

Cecil (22) died on 25 October after his VW Polo collided with an oncoming vehicle on the N2, near Spine Road, in Cape Town. Both the soccer star and the other motorist died on the scene. His death comes just five months after the shocking death of Richard Henyekane, who was K_illed in a similar fashion.

The Free State Stars striker died a horrifying death when his car caught fire on impact on the N5 between Harrismith and Bethlehem in the Free State in the early hours of 12 May. Richard was with Ayanda Motete (19), Nthabiseng Motsoetsoe (20), Limpho Moloi (18) and a male friend, and they all died at the scene.

A close friend and a former coach, speaking to a Sunday Newspaper, described Richard as a 'party animal' and a 'boozer of note'.

"He was a cheap drunk. After just two bottles, he was out," the friend was quated as saying.

Richard 's former mentor, Manqoba Mnqithi, who coached the high flying striker at Golden Arrows, said they once summoned the player to a meeting and he revealed that he had a drinking problem.

Other top soccer players who died in a similar fashion include former Orlando Pirated and SUndowns midfielder Gift Leremi and former Pirates striker Lesley Manyathela.

Gift was K_illed when his BMW went off the road and overturned on 4 September 2007. Lesley died in August 2003 when his car overturned near Musina in Limpopo.

Former Bafana Bafana defender Bryce Moon escaped jail by a whisker after being acquitted in 2013 of attempted murder following an accident which left Zimbabwean domestic worker, Mavis Ncube, dead. There were however, claims that money had changed hands for Moon to escape jail.
