Pearl Thusi and D’Banj sizzle as ‘Lip Sync Battle Africa’ hosts,

If the backstage chemistry between Pearl Thusi and D’Banj is anything to go by, then television screens are about to sizzle.

The pair were named the local hosts of the international entertainment show Lip Sync Battle Africa. Like the US version, the local rendition pits two celebrities against each other as they lip-sync a song of their choice for a live studio audience.

The 27-year-old South African actress, radio DJ, model and television personality will serve as host and master of ceremonies. Bringing his swag to the mix, Nigerian artist D’Banj, known as theKoko Master, will step in as the commentator, adding his unscripted observations to the show. D’Banj, who will be based in Johannesburg while recording the show, said he was here to “take over South Africa” and referred to himself and Thusi as the Beyoncé and Jay-Z of Africa.

Thusi said: “It feels like I’ve been entrusted with a very heavy responsibility but I feel like it’s one that I can handle and it’s one that I can handle with a great man next to me. I’m excited to entertain Africa… That is our responsibility and I know we’re going to K_ill it.”

D’Banj had nothing but compliments for Thusi and even joked about being the “side piece” in the show.

“I’m the side-piece here .I like it, they say that what a man can do, a woman can do it better, let’s not lie, give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar. She’s perfect for the role,” he said.

The Koko Master was previously romantically linked to Mzansi’s “it girl”, Bonang Matheba, who is also Thusi’s on-again off-again “frenemy”.

Lip Sync Battle Africa will premiere on MTV and MTV Base from April 14 and then again on e.tv a week later.
